Job summary

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) in Markham, ON, Canada, is seeking an engineer for post-silicon activities focused on power and performance optimization of CG products. You will work on CPU/APU/GPU related workloads to deliver high performance with efficiency for millions of users.

The role involves developing test plans, modeling power/perf, and collaborating across teams to implement new features and improve existing ones. Onsite position in Markham, Canada.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's +5 years or Master’s +3 in Electronics/Computer Engineering or Computer Science with emphasis on computer architecture and workload analysis
• Experience with power/thermal management and performance
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute performance, power and perf/watt characterization and optimization test plans for different usage scenarios (3D, compute, multimedia, AI).
• Analyze interactions between performance and power management features and optimize configurations.
• Develop post-Si power/performance models for key usage scenarios.
• Support prototyping experiments for improving current features affecting performance and power.
• Debug system-level issues in test environments and platforms.
• Drive continuous improvement for post-silicon power and performance activities.
• Participate in the product definition process.

THE ROLE:

The AMD CG (Compute-Graphics) Performance and Power Engineering Team carries the duty of ensuring AMD APU & GPU products that deliver performance leadership and superior power efficiency. We work along and with various individuals within and outside of the team that allows us to engage in all sorts of work that impacts current and future products. This role offers the opportunity to show your passion towards CPU, APU, and GPU technology to provide users with the best experience possible. The team is passionate about power and performance with primary responsibilities in post-silicon bring-up, feature and workload optimization and characterization, debug and product optimization. Successful candidate will assume responsibility for post-silicon activities related to power and performance characterization and optimization of AMD discrete GPU products and integrated NPU products.

THE PERSON:

We are seeking an engineer for development of post-silicon activities related to performance and perf/watt optimization of AMD CG products. We are looking for a passionate candidate to join our highly visible team to deliver the highest performing and most power efficient products to millions of users worldwide.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Developing and executing performance, power and perf/watt characterization and optimization test plans for different usage scenarios (3D, compute, multimedia, Static Screen, AI, etc.)
• Analyzing interactions between various performance and power management features and optimize their configurations for power and performance
• Developing post-Si power/performance models for key usage scenarios
• Support prototyping experiments for improving current and implementing new features that impact performance and power
• Debugging and troubleshooting system-level issues that may occur in test environments and platforms
• Proactively driving continuous improvement for post-silicon power and performance activities
• Participating in the product definition process

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Understanding of power/thermal management and Performance
• Good understanding of computer organization/architecture
• Deep understanding of digital electronics
• Extensive laboratory experience, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.
• Strong analytical/problem solving skills and pronounced attention to detail
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience in programming: C or C++, and a scripting language (for example: Python, Perl, PHP, or shells)
• Experience with data analysis tools, database, machine learning is a plus (e.g. PowerBi, Excel, Matplotlib, Plotly, Tableau, R Programming, MySQL, Azure, Snowflake, PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.)
• Understanding of leading-edge artificial intelligence workloads an asset

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
