Job summary

St. Joseph's Health System (SJHS) is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse for the Schizophrenia Orchard 2 inpatient unit at West 5th Campus in Hamilton. The role focuses on psychiatric nursing, discharge planning, and reduction of restraints, within an inter-disciplinary team.

Applicants should be an RPN with Ontario registration and CPR certification; experience in mental health care is preferred. The position is a 6-month fixed-term full-time with day and night shifts.

Qualifications

• Registration as an RPN with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Completion of an approved RPN program or enrollment in psychiatric nursing.
• CPR certification and asepsis/medication administration training.
• Experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric nursing care to adults with severe mental illness.
• Participate in inter-disciplinary team planning and discharge planning.
• Maintain documentation in patient information systems and charting.
• Demonstrate non-violent crisis intervention and trauma-informed care.
