Job description
Position Summary

Tacten is seeking Rope Access Journeyperson Insulators with specialty experience to support the Nova Chemicals Spring 2026 Outage. This role is intended for experienced insulators capable of performing advanced insulation work, including abatement-related scopes and cryogenic insulation systems, often at height. As part of this team, you will play a critical role in inspection preparation, insulation removal and reinstallation, and high-risk specialty work in a safety-driven outage environment.

  • Site: Nova Chemicals
  • Location: Red Deer
  • Tentative Start Date: May 11, 2026
  • Tentative End Date: June 19, 2026
  • Rotation: 6 days on / 1 day off
  • Shift Length: 12 hours
  • LOA: $165/day
Responsibilities
  • Perform rope access insulation work at height in accordance with IRATA standards and site safety requirements.
  • Strip, remove, and reinstall insulation systems on piping, vessels, and towers to support inspection and maintenance activities.
  • Install and work with foam glass and mineral fiber (MF) insulation, including removal and reinstallation at blinding locations.
  • Perform asbestos abatement-related insulation work, primarily glove bag removal, with some scope requiring negative pressure hoarding.
  • Install and replace Cryogel insulation systems, including work on small-bore piping (2” systems).
  • Measure, cut, and fit insulation materials to precise specifications in confined, elevated, or complex work areas.
  • Secure insulation using appropriate fasteners, adhesives, and installation techniques suitable for specialty applications.
  • Inspect insulation systems for damage, degradation, or deficiencies and complete repairs or replacements as required.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, safety personnel, and maintenance teams to ensure work is completed to specification and within outage timelines.
  • Maintain strict adherence to safety, quality, and environmental standards at all times.
Requirements
  • Valid Rope Access certification (IRATA) or willingness to obtain
  • Journeyperson Insulator certification or proof of hours
    • Note: Unticketed insulators must provide documented proof of a minimum of 6,000 hours
  • Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following specialty scopes:
    • Foam glass insulation
    • Mineral fiber (MF) insulation
    • Asbestos abatement / glove bag removal
    • Cryogel or cryogenic insulation systems
  • Comfortable working at heights, including tower and elevated piping applications
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and procedural compliance
  • Willingness to complete additional client-required training as needed (abatement training can be provided for candidates with relevant experience)
