Arcadis is seeking a Traffic/ Roadway Illumination design engineer in Toronto to deliver traffic signal and roadway lighting designs for transportation facilities. You will work with technical staff to prepare preliminary and detailed drawings, estimates, specifications, and proposals, and assist in reports on design assignments.

The candidate will coordinate with utilities and road authorities, prepare wiring details and photometrics in AutoCAD or MicroStation, and contribute to QA/QC

Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Traffic/Civil Engineering.
  • 3+ years relevant experience in intersection/traffic signal design.
  • Must be eligible for the P. Eng. designation in Ontario.

Responsibilities

  • Design traffic signals and roadway illumination for transportation facilities; prepare drawings, estimates, specifications, and proposals.
  • Coordinate with utility and roadway agencies on technical fronts; develop layouts and photometrics in AutoCAD/MicroStation.
  • Prepare technical reports, tender documentation and field support including commissioning and site inspection.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable standards and QA/QC procedures.

Role description :

The primary focus is Traffic Signal and/or Roadway Lighting design for transportation facilities and the successful candidate will work with technical staff to prepare preliminary, and detailed traffic/intersection design Drawings, Estimates, Specifications, and Proposals. You will also assist in preparing reports as to the nature, status and results of design or study assignments.

Role accountabilities:

The successful candidate will contribute to the successful design, production, coordination and management of Roadway Illumination and Traffic Signal projects.

You will coordinate with Utility and Roadway agencies on Technical fronts in terms of developing traffic signal/intersection and roadway illumination designs in AutoCAD and/or Microstation such as layout, equipment details, and photometrics.

As may be separately directed by other Electrical Engineers/Managers, you may assist developing deliverables such as wiring diagrams, power calculations, and Electrical Engineering designs compliant with ESA codes or relevant acts/standards.

Under this capacity, you will also render utility coordination duties as they relate to roadway illumination and traffic signal projects including the preparation of technical reports, tender documentation and field support (including commissioning, Traffic signal turn-on, and site inspection).

This person will verify or validate that Engineering deliverables (e.g., drawings, specifications, analysis, budget estimates) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices, review drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs and ensure that project deliverables are met in a timely manner to a high quality including engineering stamped drawings and preparing final reports.

Qualifications & Experience:
  • Completed Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Traffic/Civil Engineering
  • 3+ years relevant experience in intersection/traffic signal design, ideally in a design-consulting or utility environment
  • Must have or be eligible for the P. Eng. designation in Ontario
  • Must be proficient with AutoCAD and Microstation
  • Proficient with AGI 32
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manuals (Book 12, 15, 5, & 7), Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Ontario Traffic Manuals (OTM), RP-8 (latest version) Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Canada (MUTCDC), and Technical Manuals published by the Transportation Association of Canada
  • Experience with O.Reg 22/04 certification and liaising with utility authorities
  • Experience with pole loading software i.e. SPIDAcalc or equivalent is an asset
  • Experience performing site inspections, construction supervision and contract administration
  • MTO Major Electrical RAQS qualified is an asset
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering various complex projects with large size and scope
  • Experience working on MTO Roadway Lighting projects

The salary range for this position is $71,000 - $106,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
