Job Description

Roads and Grounds, Operator — We’re looking for a Roads and Grounds Operator to join our multidisciplinary team at the New Stanton hospital in Yellowknife, NWT.

Responsibilities
  • The principal responsibilities of the Roads and Grounds Operator in this position are to participate as a member of the FM Department team, performing skilled maintenance/repair and related duties. This includes snow removal, grounds landscaping, laundry delivery, refueling and repair of snow removal equipment throughout the hospital and grounds. The successful individual will contribute to hospital operations and projects by ensuring safety in all practices and following procedures, and will operate in accordance with all territorial, municipal codes and department and hospital policies.
  • Demonstrates customer service and interpersonal skills; problem solving and critical thinking. Contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide a healthy environment for staff, physicians, volunteers, learners, patients, and families.
Other Details
  • This position works 40 hours per week with possible weekends, and on-call as requested by Manager.
  • Requires equipment operating experience (skid steer, loader), with generalized knowledge of small engine operation and repair. Other trades/tickets or certifications are a plus.
  • Outdoor role; snow gear provided; ability to work in cold temperatures.
  • Ability to work in various positions (stooping, standing, bending, sitting, kneeling, squatting) for extended periods.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls.
  • Ability to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned tasks; ability to lift 45 pounds throughout the workday.
  • Represent the department with a positive and professional attitude.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a professional manner and close work orders within the required timeframe as per the Response Time policy.
  • Communicate work status with client groups via Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) within the required timeframe.
Health and Safety & Compliance
  • Adhere to and promote the Occupational Health and Safety legislative and corporate requirements.
  • Keep and maintain records as required.
  • Participate in educational programs and in-service training.
