Job description
Overview

Reporting to the Manager Perioperative Services, you will be responsible for providing quality nursing care to patients including complex patient populations whose outcomes are not predictable. As part of a multidisciplinary health care team, you will practice within the Professional Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario, the Philosophy of patient and family centered care, mission vision, values and the policies of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Responsibilities
  • Provide quality nursing care to patients including complex patient populations whose outcomes are not predictable.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary health care team to ensure patient and family centered care.
  • Use the Nursing Process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) to arrive at individualized care planning and delivery.
  • Collaborate and provide consult to Registered Practice Nurses when patients assigned to the RPN become unstable or have outcomes that are not as expected.
  • Identify and recognize abnormal or unexpected patient responses and take appropriate action.
  • Manage multiple nursing interventions simultaneously and maintain sterile technique, wound management and infection control, laser technique, hemodynamic monitoring, pneumatic tourniquets, and electrosurgical units as applicable.
  • Maintain knowledge in perioperative and surgical nursing, including circulating and scrubbing for a variety of surgical procedures.
  • Maintain a safe environment and adhere to policies and standards of infection control and safety.
  • On‑call availability is a requirement for these positions.
Qualifications
  • Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current certification in BCLS.
  • Certification from a formal Perioperative Nursing Course or demonstrated continuing education in Perioperative Nursing.
  • Recent knowledge in Perioperative Nursing with experience in circulating and scrubbing for a variety of surgical procedures, sterile technique and maintaining the sterile environment, wound management and infection control, laser technique, hemodynamic monitoring, pneumatic tourniquets, and electrosurgical units.
  • Recent knowledge in Surgical Nursing with experience caring for pre and postoperative surgical patients.
  • Ability to use the Nursing Process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in conjunction with basic and ongoing knowledge to arrive at individualized care planning and delivery.
  • Strong interprofessional and communication skills.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have a certification, or recent continuing education in Perioperative Nursing.
Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $39,070 to 56,000.

On‑call availability is a requirement for these positions.
