Duties And Responsibilities
- RNs are responsible for first aid to cadets, cadet instructors, and onsite civilians. The provision of service to patients is on a walk-in basis. These activities include conducting patient history and physical assessment, patient screening, performing selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, counselling of patients on preventative health care, and facilitating access to health services and referrals. The HCP must be available for either eight or twelve-hour shifts as per clinic schedule and identified on the Task Authorization Request, including weekday and weekend shifts.
- Apply policies, procedures, and rules for medical services to on-site Regular Force, Reserve Force, Cadet, and civilian members.
- Assess patients reporting to the clinic.
- Administer care and urgent care treatment, provide information for self-resolution of health issues.
- Refer cases beyond their expertise to the Charge/Head Nurse or higher medical authority.
- Record observations, recommendations, and treatments in the patient's medical file.
- Provide OTC medication as per responsibility, qualification, and provincial registration or delegated authority.
- Ensure follow-up with patients and inform medical authorities as needed.
- Promote hygiene, safety, and disease prevention among camp members.
- Assist physicians during clinic hours.
- Review and fill out Cadet Intake Forms, manage cadet medications, and explain their use to responsible officers.
- Oversee cadet medical intake forms, review medical documents, and manage medications for camp intake.
Charge/Head Nurse Responsibilities
- Assess patients and determine appropriate levels of care, including contacting medical directors or transferring patients to civilian facilities.
- Respond to queries from health professionals, cadet medical liaison officers, and camp leadership, respecting privacy laws.
- Supervise and mentor student nurses on rotation.
- Perform other relevant tasks for the occupational group.
Administrative Functions
- Handle phone calls and emails related to clinic operation and patient care.
- Follow up with healthcare practitioners, parents, or cadet/medical authorities.
- Manage clinical and administrative forms, stock, and supplies.
- Oversee medication management and audits.
- Ensure overall clinic function and report generation when in charge.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to policies and safety procedures.
Must successfully complete the Police Records Check (PRC)/Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) process. These documents are mandatory as you will be working with youth.
