Program Overview – Rites of Passage, Youth Wellness Centre

This position reports to the ROP Manager and is responsible for working collaboratively within the ROP team to lead, plan and conduct Rites of Passage programming for youth participants as they progress through their Rites of Passage journey, and to provide guidance and collaborative support to the ROP Facilitator team.

The Team Lead will utilize their multi-year ROP experience and expertise to contribute to the program's development and implementation, ensuring it aligns with an African-centered value system, and meets the needs of Black youth of African descent. The Team Lead will serve as an advocate for the program and the youth the program serves, providing direct leadership and guidance to ROP Facilitators during cohort sessions as well as collaborating with the Management team for the resources and support required to ensure optimum staff performance on the ROP Team and for the programs implemented.

What You Will Do
  • Supporting the ROP Facilitators with leadership and the action of outreach and engagement of African-Canadian youth, as well as post-secondary students and those out of school and work, as well as those that may be experiencing interactions with various systems, such as the criminal justice system and child welfare system.
  • Lead and provide guidance to ROP Facilitators, onsite at Cohort sessions; internally at 2206 Eglinton, as well as various community locations, such as schools, organizations and other community spaces.
  • Work with the Rites of team, the Eldership Advisory Circle, WoodGreen / ROP Management, community members, and other youth service providers to position WoodGreen’s Rites of Passage process as a viable option for young people of African descent to further build themselves.
  • Play a collaborative role in preparing and implementing Rites of Passage quality assurance frameworks (Process Impact Assessments, Evaluation tools, etc.).
  • Lead and work collaboratively with the ROP Facilitators to ensure CRM / data entry / case management notes are completed in a timely manner. Consult with ROP mgmt. as required to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Ensuring that Rites of Passage standards of service excellence are clearly understood and centred in all aspects of Rites of Passage work with African-Canadian youth and communities and internally within WoodGreen.
  • Addressing and discussing emerging issues and proposed solutions with the team and Manager and making recommendations for constant improvement. Acting as an lead in advocating for the betterment of the program, the youth it serves, and the ROP program facilitators.
  • Lead the Rites of Passage team to ensure a shared vision of Rites of Passage standards of service excellence
  • Actively participating in the development of WoodGreen Rites of Passage curriculum and relevant resources and Leading in a team context to support Rites of Passage activities and initiatives where required.
  • Representing Rites and WoodGreen Community Services in a professional manner at all times.
  • Maintains all aspects of client and ROP related confidentiality.
  • Ensures the equity, anti-racism objectives and community development principles of the organization are achieved within the program.
  • Participates in regular supervisory sessions, communicating regularly with the managment team, providing updates on progression of program, key observations and recommendations as required.
  • Participates in regular staff and unit meetings within the team, as well as leading meetings with ROP Facilitators.
  • Support planning and facilitation of various Rites of Passage activities, and perform other related duties as required from time to time.
What You Bring to the Team
  • Undergraduate Degree in Social Work or College Diploma, Social Service Worker, or other related diploma / degree, with 4+ years experience working directly with young people.
  • At least 4+ years’ experience working with young people in culturally responsive programming activities. Highly developed facilitation skills and experience working with the Rites of Passage models and / or African-centred maturation models are considered strong assets for this role. Emerging experience, acting in a leadership role.
