Job description
Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Retail Product Manager to oversee retail and wholesale trade operations, with a strong focus on product development, market expansion, and brand strategy implementation. Operating across both direct-to-consumer (DTC) and business-to-business (B2B) markets, this role bridges customer engagement, product lifecycle management, and retail operations. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with the ability to manage operations in a remote community while driving growth through effective product and market positioning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic & Product Leadership: Direct the development and expansion of product offerings across retail and wholesale markets.
  • Market Entry & Growth Strategy: Plan and manage market entry and growth strategies, including DTC and B2B channels.
  • Brand Development: Participate in brand development and ensure effective implementation of the corporate brand strategy.
  • Collaborative Marketing: Work collaboratively with the Marketing Director on brand positioning, promotional planning, and campaign execution.
  • Market & Customer Engagement: Cultivate and maintain relationships with wholesale partners, distribution channels, and B2B clients.
  • Customer Engagement Strategy: Oversee customer engagement strategies for DTC channels, including retail experience and loyalty programs.
  • Market Intelligence: Gather and analyze market intelligence, consumer behaviour, and industry trends to identify new opportunities.
  • Operational Oversight: Manage retail operations, including inventory management, merchandising, and supply coordination.
  • Logistics & Distribution: Ensure efficient logistics and operational flow, supporting both local retail and wholesale distribution.
  • Physical Operations Support: Assist in the physical logistics of operations, including handling shipments and lifting items up to 50 lbs as required.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor staff, ensuring team performance aligns with organizational goals.
  • Performance & Compliance: Monitor KPIs across retail and wholesale channels and provide regular business reports.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure compliance with industry standards, workplace safety requirements, and food/product safety regulations (where applicable).
  • Policy & Community Standards: Uphold corporate policies and community engagement standards.
  • Travel & Remote Operations: Regularly travel to engage customers, suppliers, and retail/wholesale partners across remote regions.
  • Driver & Vehicle Requirements: Maintain a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle to facilitate travel within and outside the community.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, commerce, or related field, OR
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a related role, with at least 5 years in a managerial capacity (education may be waived with this experience).
  • Demonstrated expertise in retail/wholesale trade management, product development, or market expansion.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a remote community and manage operational challenges unique to such settings.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and have access to a personal vehicle.
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficiency and fluency in written and spoken English.
Desired Attributes
  • History of working with Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) operations, regenerative agriculture, fresh produce, retail, and/or low-carbon energy systems.
