A&W Restaurants (Island Burgers Inc.) – Assistant Manager

Location: Merecroft Village, 465 Merecroft Rd, Campbell River, BC V9W 6K6

Salary: $46,500 per year

Hours: 40 hours per week

Language Requirement: English

Education: Secondary School Certificate

Work Experience: 3 years restaurant experience; supervisory experience is an asset.

ROLE

The Assistant Manager works with the Manager, supervising overall shift and daily operations of the restaurant. The Assistant Manager is responsible for operating the restaurant according to A&W Standards, Provincial WCB, and Employment & Health regulations daily and can maintain smooth operations in the Manager’s absence.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Operations
  • Balance key goals – high quality, speed of service and cost control through effective management of the operating system
  • Maintain Provincial WCB and A&W standards daily; recognize areas for improvement and act where needed
  • Schedule staff, including self, and assign shift roles and responsibilities
  • Know workplace climate goals and ensure they are practiced daily
Human Resources
  • Train, develop, confront poor performance
  • Ensure staff safety and a healthy, motivating work environment applying daily workplace climate goals
  • Maintain Employment regulations daily
  • Document critical incidents and report them to key individuals
Financial
  • Complete daily, weekly, and periodic accounting administration as directed by the manager
  • Manage inventory control, ordering, cost control and weekly inventory counts as directed by the manager
  • Apply cash policies and food cost management principles
Customers
  • Ensure cleanliness standards and safe food handling practices are met
  • Ensure high level of service to guests through efficient preparation, stocking and staff positioning
  • Assist Manager with local store marketing
  • Manage accidents or complaints, implementing a service recovery program
  • Ensure team appearance meets standards
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3 years experience in a restaurant supervisory role
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven leadership
  • Expertise in all restaurant positions
  • Complete knowledge of restaurant Operating Systems and Operating Standards
  • High interest in developing others
  • Ability to do accounting and manage administrative aspects of the operation
PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Acceptable oral and written English communication skills
  • Acceptable mathematical skills
  • Ability to train and coach others in a hands‑on approach; imparting knowledge
  • Competent in Microsoft 365 Business applications
  • Ability to lead meetings
