Overview

JOIN OUR TEAM at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH). One of Western Canada’s largest and busiest hospitals. As a teaching facility, we’re committed to quality improvement and evidence-based care. Serving a diverse population across a vast region, the RAH delivers expert care through specialized programs including Level 2 Trauma/ICU, Stroke, Surgery, Cardiac Care (CK Hui), the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, Indigenous Health, and more.

Responsibilities

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients, develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans, and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with clinical teams to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Working Environment and Schedule
  • Responsibilities across Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, and Cardiac Care Unit.
  • Flexible shift options with potential cycles (e.g., 2 days on/3 off or 4 days on/5 off).
  • Opportunities to apply for part-time positions or different lines within the site.
Qualifications
  • Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
  • Graduate from a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy and eligible to write, or have passed, the National Respiratory Certification Exam (CBRC).
  • Current active CRTA registration in good standing, with current BLS-HCP certification and annual proof of active certification.
  • Demonstrated competency in all phases of the job and adaptability to new procedures and information.
  • Strong communication, organization, and clinical documentation skills; ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Ability to stay current with advances in respiratory therapy and departmental practices.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and maintain reliability.
  • Alignment with AHS values and sound judgment in decision-making and problem-solving.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current acute care and charge therapist experience in a tertiary teaching hospital.
  • Orientation to major and minor clinical areas of the position and experience in precepting students.
  • Experience developing quality initiatives and implementing practice changes.
  • Active participation on committees; additional certifications such as Advanced Life Support, Arterial Line Insertion, IV Insertion; and current Rapid Response Team membership.
