Position Summary

Are you a registered Respiratory Therapist looking to highlight your knowledge, skills, and abilities in a new and dynamic environment? We currently have an opportunity for you to bring your excellent work ethic to our Respiratory Services department. In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, you will practice in accordance with the standards of professional practice as outlined by the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and within a client and family centered care model. You will perform ongoing respiratory care in a multi‑disciplinary setting for clients with a variety of illnesses and diseases, including but not limited to acute and/or chronic cardio‑respiratory illnesses or pathologies, working independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team. You will enhance quality of life from the perspective of the client/family, consult and collaborate with other health care professionals, demonstrate continuous improvement and best practice in respiratory practice, maintain and advance your own clinical competence, and participate on committees, teams, and approved research projects as assigned.

Shift Rotation / Hours of Work

Days, Nights, 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00 (rotating)

Qualifications
  • Graduation from a recognized Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Current certification with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and eligibility for registration with the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapists (BCSRT).
  • Current valid BC Driver’s License as required in the specific practice area.

  • Assessment and Treatment: Ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) through appropriate and prescribed therapeutic interventions.
  • Teaching: Ability to teach clients and others individually and in groups.
  • Knowledge Integration: Integration of best practice and current research evidence to support professional practice decisions and actions.
  • Communication: Effective communication with clients, families, the public, medical staff and interdisciplinary team members using verbal, written and electronic means, including conflict resolution skills.
  • Critical Thinking: Integration and evaluation of pertinent data from multiple sources to problem‑solve and make decisions, applying a systems approach.
  • Human Caring and Relationship‑Centered Practice: Promotion of client‑focused care, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
  • Management: Organization of work, goal setting, prioritization, time and resource management, promotion of team cooperation and collaboration across disciplines.
  • Leadership: Promotion of staff morale, engagement and empowerment, creative planning for change and innovation, implementation of policies and protocols, and ongoing professional development.
  • Teamwork: Fostering teamwork and commitment to excellence in client care.
  • Equipment: Computer skills including Meditech and Windows programs, data analysis and reporting tools, e‑mail and word processing, and operation of other related equipment as required.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
