Job summary

A community-based organization in Ontario is seeking a Residential Peer Support Worker for their women's shelter. This role includes creating safe environments, providing advocacy and referrals, and administrative support. Ideal candidates will have a strong commitment to women's issues and knowledge of Indigenous cultures. Applicants must be able to work variable shifts including overnights. Compliance with a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy is required.

Qualifications

• Proven dedication to Violence Against Women work.
• Solid understanding of feminist ideology and anti-racism/anti-oppression principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated sound judgement and problem solving.
• Ability to communicate in Cree and/or Ojibway is a definite asset.

Responsibilities

• Assist in creating a safe, confidential living/working conditions.
• Provide advocacy and accompaniment for shelter clients.
• Provide conflict resolution and crisis intervention.
• Link women to appropriate community referrals.
• Assist in meal preparation and housekeeping.
