Job summary

Shinhan Bank Canada is seeking an Underwriter for Residential Mortgage to support the underwriting team and related operations. The role reports to the Senior Manager, Residential Mortgage and entails preparing reports, reviewing applications, appraisals and registrations, and recommending lending decisions.

The candidate will collaborate across branches, regulators and legal teams, ensuring accurate credit assessments and timely processing within a fast-paced banking environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in business or finance.
  • 3+ years of work experience preferred, ideally in a Canadian financial institution.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Extreme attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team and interact with all levels.
  • Able to prioritize, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.

  • Review residential mortgage applications: perform credit assessment, communicate with branch/relationship managers and prepare analysis opinion.
  • Review and analyze appraisal reports.
  • Recommend decision on residential mortgage applications to approval authority.
  • Review and request approval for registration of new appraisal company or mortgage brokerage.
  • Register residential mortgage application in the Bank’s core banking system.
  • Instruct relevant department to process legal document and to send instructions to solicitors.
  • Other duties as required by Department.

Job description

Job Requirements

Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in business or finance; or equivalent experience in financial services or a related field
