Job Description
Residential Care Worker

Location: 180 Henry Ave - Front Desk (in person)

Status: Permanent Position

Hours per week: 40 hours per week / Full Time

Work Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

Shift: Night Shift

Time: 11:30 pm to 7:30 am

Shift premiums: evenings $1.00 per hour, weekends $1.35 per hour, nights $1.75 per hour to a max of 8 hours per shift.

Pay: $17.77 per hour per shift.

Position is Unionized after 6 months of employment.

License/Certification
  • Current Police Record Check with vulnerable persons check

  • Child Abuse Registry Check (finger printing required at commissionaires - for protected B clearance)
Job Purpose

The Residential Care Worker provides a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors.

Characteristic Job Duties
  • Monitors the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and morale support; may include safe storage and recording of prescribed medications.
  • Accurately records day‑to‑day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reports.
  • Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g., Welfare, police, urgent situations).
  • Coordinates client care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in taking random urinalysis, as well as breathalyzer tests with clients, doing bed checks, ensures adherence to check‑in times and curfews.
  • May carry out inspection/security checks of property and grounds in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Handles the admission, orientation and evaluation of clients’ understanding of rules, ensures ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline.
  • May handle finances relating to room rentals and meal tickets, receipting of same.
  • May serve as reception for shelter.
  • May prepare or provide simple meals for clients/residents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Note: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.

Minimum Education Level Attained

The successful job applicant will have completed high school, plus specialized courses of up to six months (Addictions facilities). Note: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements

The successful applicant will hold/have:

  • Addiction Facility – Addictions counselling Courses.
  • See Precautionary Measures.
Minimum Prior Related Experience

The incumbent must have the following experience before hire: more than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including experience with frontline work in a social services setting.

Physical Effort Required

The performance of the job requires moderate amounts of keyboarding and performing walk abouts.

Concentration Required

The performance of the job requires continuously monitoring the environment, monitoring security cameras and attentiveness when interacting with clients and recording information.

Responsibility for Financial Resources

The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly or on a relief basis or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.

Human Resources

The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees, volunteers and or students.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $17.77 to $17.77 with a maximum of $17.77. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
