Job summary

A leading industrial products and solutions provider in Canada seeks a skilled Resident Mechanic to perform testing, diagnosing, and repairing heavy equipment, including onsite work with customers. The ideal candidate has a Journeyperson Heavy Duty Technician certificate and 4-5 years of related experience. Qualifications

  • 4-5 years related experience in repair and installation of material handling, construction, and forestry equipment.
  • 4-5 years related experience in repair and installation of material handling equipment, construction and Forestry Equipment.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication; proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook; proven ability to work with customers; strong mechanical aptitude and problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and diagnose components and equipment for servicing needs.
  • Service and repair equipment in the shop and in the field.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with customers.
  • Coordinate parts orders and returns.
  • Recondition and remanufacture components for equipment, engine and hydraulic repairs.
  • Build strong relationships with existing customers and develop new ones.
  • Maintain service records and complete paperwork.
  • Fill out warranty information and communicate with OEM on issues.
  • Complete work orders.
  • Participate in training and comply with Health & Safety programs.

Job description

The Opportunity

The Resident Mechanic candidate will be expected to grow the business including visiting potential new customers as well as existing customers.

Responsible for providing quality workmanship, consistent service, and technical knowledge to customers in Material handling, Construction and Forestry business. Perform all tasks related to the testing, diagnosing, repair, maintenance, and reconditioning of heavy equipment including transmissions, engines (gasoline and diesel).

Most repairs will be performed at the customers site in the field.

The Role
  • Inspect and diagnose components and equipment for servicing needs.
  • Communicate with equipment owners for authorization of servicing and repairs as required.
  • Service and repair equipment in the shop and in the field for the customer.
  • Communicate and coordinate parts orders and returns.
  • Recondition and remanufacture components as required for equipment, engine and hydraulic repairs.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with existing customers while building relationships with new customers.
  • Communicate equipment servicing needs as required with his Supervisor/Manager.
  • Communicate work performed and complete service paperwork.
  • Update and maintain service records.
  • Fill out warranty information and communicate with the OEM on issues.
  • Complete work orders.
  • Participate in manufacturers’ and in house service training. Training may occur during work and/or after work hours.
  • Comply with the Health & Safety program and practices.
  • Comply to NSC rules and paperwork.
The Candidate
  • Education: Journeyperson Heavy Duty Technician certificate.
  • Work Experience: 4-5 years related experience in repair and installation of material handling equipment, construction and Forestry Equipment.
  • Knowledge: Proficient written and verbal communication skills; proficient computer skills with experience in Excel, Word, and Outlook programs, proven ability to work with customers, exceptional customer service; demonstrated mechanical aptitude, analysis and problem solving skills.
