Position
Position purpose summary
The Resident Team Supervisor assists the Resident Services Director in the oversight and supervision of the Residential Worker Team. The Supervisor monitors, trains, assists with hiring, and supports/monitors the job performance of Residential Workers as they support residents and other staff members.
Responsibilities
Waterston Centre / Shelter Program
- Supervise day-to-day operations of the Residential Worker team including staff scheduling
- Ensure implementation and oversight of policies and procedures and that they are understood and adhered to by employees
- Maintain and promote a positive public image of the Salvation Army Waterston Ministries by providing a high caliber of services and by dealing with the public and professional contacts in a courteous and professional manner
- Be part of the after-hours on-call rotation, particularly as it relates to staff scheduling issues
- Lead monthly Team Meetings for various shifts
- Ensure regular HIFIS reporting is accurate and shared with Management Team
- Participate in all Waterston Ministries Leadership Team meetings and Caseworker meetings
- Participate in community and Salvation Army forums as requested by the Resident Services Director
- Assist with case management for residents of Waterston Centre
- Assist with intake and discharge processes for residents as required
- Build and maintain a therapeutic milieu with residents and team members
- Ensure the physical, psychological, and spiritual needs are met through referrals to caseworkers, chaplains, etc.
- Complete reports and maintain records of resident activity
- Provide statistical and evaluative information to management and funders
- Support the team in meeting residents' spiritual needs and cultural practices
Human Resources
- Oversight of the mentoring of the Residential Worker team
- Engage in regular supervision with the Resident Services Director
- Ensure implementation and oversight of policies and procedures and that they are understood and adhered to by employees
- Provide supervision to team monitoring security, evenings, nights, and weekends
- May participate in hiring, orientating, training, coaching, evaluating and scheduling of staff in accordance with contracts and residential standards
- Assist with staff timesheets and ensure they are submitted for payroll purposes
- Monitor and assist with staff safety practices in compliance with health and safety standards and prepare, submit and act on incident reports
- Identify proactive safety measures to the Director of Resident Services based on needs and concerns
- Assume the role of a front-line Residential Worker when assistance is required
- Responsible for own professional self-development
Administration Documentation & Reporting
- Assist with statistical reports (including SAMIS and HIFIS) and other documents for Administration
- Ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness of HIFIS resident files, including data integrity, confidentiality, and records of belongings of discharged residents
- Provide back-up support for reception (answers phones, doors, etc.) as needed
- Record unusual or out-of-character behaviours in daily logbooks and report to the Residential Services Director and appropriate partners
- Maintain logs for incident reports and forward to the Resident Services Director and Executive Director
- Oversee and monitor intake process at the Residential Worker Desk to ensure efficiency, comprehensiveness, and accuracy
Managerial / Technical Leadership Responsibility
- Reports directly to: Resident Services Director
- Direct reports: up to 16 Residential Workers
- Provides coaching and mentoring of up to 16 full, part-time and casual staff using the Performance Enhancement and Coaching Model (PEAC)
Working Conditions
- Work setting is a multi-faceted residential setting including emergency shelter, transition, and supportive housing
- Willing to work extra time occasionally to support staffing requirements
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours per position needs
- May work under the following disagreeable conditions: work-related stress, dealing with angry and abusive people, dealing with crisis situations
- Little travel associated with this position
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds
- Flexible schedule to accommodate programming and emergencies
- May be on-call 24/7 for emergencies and staffing-related issues

Education, Experience & Certifications
Education, Qualifications and Certifications
- Completed a formal post-secondary/college program in social work or equivalent education (minimum requirement)
- Current Driver's license and driving abstract
- CPR First Aid (C)
- ASIST
Experience and Skills
- Minimum 3-5 years of prior related experience in a residential setting working with marginalized clientele
- Minimum 2 years of supervision/leadership/coaching experience in a residential setting
- Experience working with youth/women's programs preferred
- Understanding of the Behavior Based Model
- Experience in a case management system

Compensation
The target hiring range for this position is $49,643.22 to $62,054.03, with a maximum of $74,464.83. Placement within the salary range will be based on market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
