Resident Resource Coordinator, College of Medicine

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Resident Wellness Coordinator (Non-academic support) is responsible for the non-academic support across the PGME program. This position assists residents in coping with professional and personal challenges by providing individual resident support, accommodations, access/referral to counseling, financial advising, student loan assistance, and other resources while developing proactive strategies and workshops around health and wellness and career transitions. The role supplies accurate, timely advice to the Associate Dean, PGME Committee, and Program Directors on continuing and emergent resident wellbeing issues.

NATURE OF WORK: Reporting to the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education and the PGME Manager, this position establishes and maintains professional relationships with residents, faculty, departments, and external agencies. The incumbent works within a team and independently, manages competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and ensures compliance with accrediting bodies, College of Medicine, and University policies. Some travel within the province may be required.

TYPICAL DUTIES
Wellness and Implementation
  • Health and wellness program development across the eight dimensions of wellness, including work‑life balance and financial stress management.
  • Ensure application of university and SHA policies regarding intimidation and harassment.
  • Provide direction for resident counseling services to address stress, fatigue, adverse events, modified learning plans, academic difficulty, and transitions.
Non‑Academic Support
  • Guide residents on PGME policies and procedures; develop and implement accommodations for residents with disabilities, including transmissible diseases.
  • Collaborate internally, provincially, and nationally with stakeholders to share best practices and resources.
Resource Coordinator
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date catalogue of resource materials and supports.
  • Serve as a resource for PGME learners seeking information on available supports on or off campus.
  • Participate in PGME Committees and Residency Training Committees as a resource.
Outreach and Education Role
  • Design and deliver resident wellbeing activities such as workshops, partnering with the PGME office, residency programs, and health care professionals.
  • Understand SHA and University health and safety procedures for resident education.
  • Develop and disseminate a resident health and education bulletin for the PGME annual report.
  • Identify opportunities to improve regulatory and procedural aspects of the academic process.
Liaison and Collaborator Role
  • Liaise with other departments, units, and external agencies that support residents.
  • Coordinate with PGME offices across Canada for best practices and resources.
  • Engage with third‑party organizations where residents are members (CPSS, RDoS, SHA, RCPSC, CFPC, CMPA) to understand policies and codes of conduct.
  • Identify resident group issues and liaise with the PGME Committee.
Advisory Role Related to Transitions to Practice
  • Assist Program Directors, Associate Dean PGME, SaskDocs, and SHA in entry into independent practice, ensuring training standards are met.
  • Provide advice on transitions to practice for programs.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Master’s level training in medical education and adult learning, or a master’s level training/background in social work, human resources, or psychology. A combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience: At least three to five years of related experience. Experience in a university environment or health care organization, working collaboratively with medical educators, learners, and health care professionals, is an asset. Knowledge of Canadian postgraduate medical education processes is required.
