Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Technician, preferably in Field Service.
  • Ability to travel extensively across Northwestern Ontario, including remote locations.
  • Bilingual in English & French is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on heavy equipment.
  • Operate independently and maintain detailed service records.
  • Provide emergency breakdown support during nights and weekends as needed.

Are you a hands-on problem solver with a passion for heavy machinery? Liebherr Canada is looking for a seasoned Heavy Equipment Technician to take on a pivotal role in servicing and repairing our full line of Earth Moving Technology equipment with a focus on Material Handling & Forestry equipment. This role demands extensive field experience, a strong work ethic, and the ability to thrive in remote environments.

Based in Thunder Bay, you'll perform major hydraulic and engine repairs, troubleshoot electrical and SCR system faults, support machine assembly, complete factory updates, and maintain detailed service records — all while keeping safety and precision at the forefront.

Please note: This position requires regular travel throughout the Northwestern Ontario region, providing on-site support to customers and equipment in remote or field-based locations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform on-site diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on heavy equipment.
  • Operate independently in the field, often without close supervision.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Prioritize safety while delivering results under challenging conditions and tight timelines.
  • Maintain detailed service records and prepare accurate documentation for each job.
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to assess equipment condition and performance.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to understand issues, set expectations, and provide updates.
  • Collaborate with parts and service departments to ensure timely repairs and parts availability.
  • Provide emergency breakdown support, including nights, and weekends as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked service vehicle.
  • Represent the company professionally while on customer sites.
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay current with evolving equipment technologies.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and resilience in adverse weather, remote locations, and variable workloads.
Competencies
  • You possess 5+ years of experience as a Heavy Equipment Technician (Field Service experience is strongly preferred)
  • Provincially Recognized Heavy Equipment Certification is strongly preferred - 421A or Red Seal.
  • Ability to travel extensively across Northwestern Ontario, including remote, off-grid locations.
  • Bilingual in English & French will be considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical components
  • Demonstrated diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, component exchange, repair and warranty related activities
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and technical drawings
  • You are able to effectively communicate detailed and complex information in a clear and concise manner
  • You are self-motivated with the ability to work alone, unsupervised for extended periods of time
  • Fully proficient with computers and Microsoft Office suite
