Job summary

A leading healthcare institution in Toronto is seeking a Research Computing Manager to oversee high-performance computing infrastructure and support faculty and student research activities. Job description

The Research Computing Manager serves as a technical expert on SRIs research and high-performance computing infrastructure and is responsible for maintaining existing capabilities, developing new functionality, and supporting SRI faculty and student work.

The Research Computing Manager will maintain core systems and software along with supporting the specialized needs of campus researchers and instructors via individual consultations and group presentations. This position will collaborate closely with the hospital IT workforce as well as SRI scientists, staff, students, and partners at other institutions to provide broad technology support for operational issues, research, and teaching. The position will be responsible for managing our deskside support team, system administration team, and clinical research applications team.

What you bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 3–5 years of experience in a related position or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Broad understanding of networking architecture technologies and healthcare cybersecurity priorities.
  • Experience implementing enterprise software solutions.
  • Significant programming experience with a language such as Python or C/C++ and understanding of SQL/MySQL.
  • Advanced understanding of large file system management, backup, and recovery protocols.
  • Broad understanding of management of Linux, Microsoft, and MAC devices.
  • Understanding of high‑performance computing architectures.
  • Experience working in an academic research lab would be an asset.
Preferred Skills
  • Formal cybersecurity training and certification (CISSP, CISM, CISA).
  • Experience supporting a high‑performance computing environment.
  • Experience with a large range of software compilers and hardware.
  • Knowledge of automation tools and job scheduling software such as Slurm.
  • Experience working within Linux, Windows, and MAC environments and specific experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Experience managing cloud computing infrastructure especially for scientific applications.

This position does require some weekend and on‑call activities and will be compensated in accordance with our SRI policies.
