In this role, the Research Associate will work in a dynamic environment amongst a small group of highly trained professional analysts and portfolio managers. This position is regarded as a stepping stone towards increased responsibilities and incumbents will benefit from one‑on‑one coaching and mentorship.

The successful applicant will contribute to the overall success of the JFL Research Department, ensuring specific individual goals, plans and initiatives are executed and delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. All activities will follow governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. We are currently seeking an Associate to join our Global Equity investment team.

Responsibilities
  • Champion a customer‑focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader JFL’s relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Work closely with Senior Analysts and Portfolio Managers to support idea generation, model maintenance and overall processes within the Toronto investment team.
  • Build and update detailed financial models.
  • Collect, analyze and input company financial data.
  • Maintain database tables.
  • Understand how JFL’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day‑to‑day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursue effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with the firm’s values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day‑to‑day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Champion a high‑performance environment and contribute to an inclusive work environment.
Qualifications
  • Minimum one year of relevant buy‑side, investment banking or sell‑side equity research experience.
  • Undergraduate degree with strong academic credentials.
  • CFA designation or pursuit of this designation is an asset.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven passion for investing, member of an investment program or club.
  • Strong numeracy skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to change.
  • Reliability, with good judgment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in analytical tools such as Excel, Bloomberg and Capital IQ.
Working Conditions
