Job description
The Reproductive & Sexual Medicine Centre

The Research Associate will be joining the Reproductive & Sexual Medicine Centre housed within the M.H. Mohseni Institute of Urologic Sciences ( https://mius.ca/the-centres/the-reproductive-sexual-medicine-centre/ ). Our Centre comprises several Faculty members performing inter-disciplinary research in the area of reproduction and sexual medicine. Research programs span cell & tissue engineering, artificial intelligence, digital health, and medical device engineering.

Position Summary

The Research Associate will be responsible for the management of an interdisciplinary research and multi-faceted research program under the direction of their PI, and in collaboration with other faculty members and researchers. This research position will span basic sciences, translational science and engineering research in the areas of male reproduction, regenerative medicine, Peyronie’s Disease, and Erectile Dysfunction.

Typical Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare competitive grant and contract funding applications
  • Prepare grant reporting

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Oversee operational management and provide regulatory support
  • Assist in facilitating original research, manuscript writing, and publishing research findings
  • Coordinate and facilitate collaborations within the institution and with external institutions (nationally and internationally)
  • Coordinate meetings and administrative work related to the research program at the discretion of the PI
  • Develop a high-level familiarity with the field of reproductive and sexual medicine
  • Network and collaborate with internal and external researchers

Research and lab responsibilities:

  • Contribute to research design, methodology determination, data collection, and advanced analysis of research results
  • Maintain quality control and work daily with Laboratory Research Assistants and trainees
  • Address safety concerns immediately and ensure all team members receive appropriate orientation and training
  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with relevant policies and legislation

Administrative duties:

  • Manage lab operations, including equipment and facility oversight
  • Handle training and assignment of work within the lab
Decision Making/Level of Accountability

High. Decisions will impact ability of assigned laboratory to function in an effective manner.

Supervision Received

Works within broad parameters. Work reviewed by Principal Investigator.

Supervision Given

Supervise, coach, guide, and mentor all members of assigned research team.

Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD or MD in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum five years relevant work experience, including extensive research knowledge, established grant and peer-review publication record.
  • Exceptional grant and manuscript writing skills
  • Extensive knowledge of research processes and methodology.
  • Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated supervisory expertise.
  • Effective interpersonal, facilitation and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously
  • Excellent communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to deliver presentations and present information clearly and concisely
  • Self-directed, detail orientated and enjoy working as a member of a team
  • Computer skills in Microsoft word, powerpoint, excel, referencing software, statistical analysis software, illustrator software
Hours of Work and Compensation

This is a temporary, 0.8 FTE position.

Location: The M.H. Mohseni Institute and Vancouver Prostate Centre

Salary range: $50,000-$55,000 when prorated to 0.8FTE
Reports to: Senior Research Scientist (s), Reproduction & Sexual Medicine Centre
