The Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) is Canada’s national military university based in Kingston, Ontario. RMC has within its mandate the provision to carry out research and other forms of support for the Department of National Defence (DND) and other government departments.

Position Overview

This project focuses on conducting research in communications, signal processing, and Machine Learning, with applications such as using UAVs as communication relays, trajectory prediction using Deep Learning, and emerging work in quantum sensing.

We are seeking a Research Technician to support ongoing research initiatives. The role involves reading technical literature, programming (Matlab, Python, etc.), running simulations, documenting results, and contributing to technical reports or papers. Work may be completed on-site or off-site, depending on project requirements. This opportunity is full-time at approximately 37.5 hours per week, until end of March 2026, with possibility of renewal afterwards.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct literature reviews and maintain familiarity with current research trends
  • Develop and refine code in Matlab, Python, or similar languages
  • Run simulations and analyze computational or experimental results
  • Contribute to writing technical reports, documentation, or research papers
  • Support research activities related to UAV-based communications relays, Wireless communication signal processing, Deep Learning for trajectory or behavior prediction, Quantum sensing studies and modelling
  • Present findings in clear tables, graphs, and written summaries
  • Collaborate with team members to validate and interpret research outputs
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (minimum), but Master’s or PhD preferred
  • Experience in one or more of the following: Wireless communications, Programming (Matlab, Python, etc.), Machine Learning, Quantum sensing
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate within research teams
  • Eligibility to obtain a Reliability clearance (Calian can assist)
