Job summary

The University of Calgary's Department of Cardiac Science in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a part-time Research Assistant. The role is a fixed-term position for about 12 months with possible extension, reporting to the PI.

The incumbent will manage projects, assist in data collection and analysis, coordinate patient enrollment in Syncope Research Group studies, and train other lab members in data analysis. A health sciences background is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Prefer a degree in Health Sciences
  • Strongly prefer a Master's degree in Biotechnology
  • Basic intermediate knowledge of research and statistical principles
  • Experience is strongly preferred
  • Self-motivation, creativity and organization are essential
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Introductory proficiency with Matlab
  • Experience in clinical trials is an asset
  • Some experience with the use of research databases and electronic data capture collection systems is required
  • Understanding RedCap database software
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-motivated, able to acquire new skills, flexible with multiple projects and duties

Responsibilities

  • Monitor project deadlines and submission

  • Maintain labs and spaces; perform self-inspections

Description

The Department of Cardiac Science in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Part-time Fixed Termposition is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

(job functions include but are not limited to):

Project Management
  • Monitor project deadlines and submission
  • Responsible for coordination and administration of research projects
  • Provide support to local projects in terms of protocol approvals
  • Develop and create paper and electronic Case Report Forms (CRF)
  • Develop creative solutions to the various challenges posed
Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Actively use data collection tools
  • Aid in the collection of data from local subjects
  • Conduct basic physiological signal data analysis under the supervision of the PI and the Research Manager of the Syncope Research Group
  • Train other laboratory students and research assistants in physiological signal data analysis under the supervision of the PI
  • Independently label, track and store study related data, as well as research equipment
  • Preform digital signal data acquisition and analysis
  • Complete CRFs, and integration with electronic databases
  • Perform quality assurance checks on study data
  • Develop research related documents
Patient Relations
  • Communicate with patients
  • Responsible for patient enrollment into Syncope Research Group research studies
  • Track outcome adjudications
  • Responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of workspaces and labs; perform lab self-inspections
Qualifications / Requirements:
