Job summary

• University degree in journalism or equivalent with a minimum of three years of recent, related experience.
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required.

CBC is looking for a reporter to help cover BC’s fastest growing community, Surrey. We are looking for a multiplatform reporter who is passionate about this dynamic and diverse B.C. community.

Are you an ambitious self-starter and collaborative team player who is passionate about local news and current events and has a strong interest in uncovering issues that matter to your audience in Surrey?

CBC News is looking for experienced multiplatform reporters to join our team.

This role is part of a two-person bureau, focused on broadening CBC’s news coverage in Canada, ensuring stories and voices from communities like Surrey are reflected in our journalism across digital, radio, social, streaming and TV.

Ability to respond to breaking news for digital platforms is a priority.

In these roles, you will operate independently under the direction of the assignment desk at CBC News Vancouver. As such, you’ll need to be someone with a lot of initiative, who is comfortable working independently to get things done, and is able to build collaborative relationships with your producers and teammates around the province.

You will put audience needs at the centre of your journalism, ensuring your work highlights a broad range of perspectives, experiences and points of view, especially those from people who have been traditionally underrepresented in the media. You will regularly find opportunities to meet new people and expand your network of contacts.

You will ensure that all CBC journalistic standards are met and that our stories are fair, balanced, accurate, thoughtful, immediate and resonate with the communities we serve.

This posting is for a full-time permanent role located in Surrey, B.C., working afternoon shifts.

This role includes rotations on weekend shifts and a full, in office presence.
