Qualifications

  • Exigence d’un diplôme de technologue en électronique/télécommunications.

  • Connaissance des systèmes RF et des réseaux IP (LAN/WAN).
  • Familiarité avec les équipements de test télécoms et satellite.
  • Expérience en 2 à 5 ans est appréciée.

Responsibilities

  • Fournir le support de niveau 2 pour les systèmes de hub et réseau Telesat.
  • Réaliser la maintenance préventive et corrective des composants RF/IF.
  • Exploiter et maintenir le système de supervision et de contrôle du site.
  • Collaborer avec l’ingénierie et le personnel client.
  • Réaliser des déplacements pour installations et maintenance.
  • Rédiger et mettre à jour les documents et procédures des téléports.

The Technologist, Montreal Teleports and remote operations, will manage and maintain Eastern Teleports infrastructure. Including but not limited to Northern communities, (Northern Quebec) for which Telesat provides phone services to all of Nunavik. In addition, they will maintain satellite gateways, site and system programming, daily checks, and overall preventive maintenance of the satellite systems.

Main Responsibilities:
  • As part of the Network Support group within Operations, provide level 2 support for Telesat hub and network systems.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance to IF and RF hardware such as up/down converters, high power amplifiers (KHPA), traveling wave tube amplifiers (TWTA), modulators…
  • Operate and maintain Monitoring and Control system (Site Supervision)
  • Work closely with Telesat Engineering and other staff in the implementation or modification of Telesat and customer systems.
  • Travel to support remote group, for installations as well as corrective maintenance is required.
  • Create and update Remote stations and Teleport services documentation and procedures as required.
  • Work directly with Telesat customers and/or third-party suppliers as required. Maintain a clean, safe and professional workspace.
  • Ability to work both in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision
Education and Experience required:
  • Electronics/Telecommunications Technologist Diploma, or the equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, strong customer service skills required.
  • Familiarity with RF systems, especially satellite-based RF systems is an asset.
  • Knowledge of IP based LAN/WAN networks and routing protocols (Ethernet, TCP/IP, VLAN).
  • Familiarity with interconnection of network devices and complex network architecture
  • Familiar with various types of telecommunications test equipment
  • 2- 5 years of experience would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with MS Office suite
Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge with Satellite, microwave and/or RF transmission
  • Knowledge with digital video compression system SD & HD
  • Understanding of Network fundamentals such as TCP/IP, LAN/WAN
  • Familiarity with interconnection of network devices.
  • Ability to demonstrate solid troubleshooting skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills Familiarity with RF systems and satellite communications would be an asset
Specialised Equipment-tools:
  • Various communications and RF uplink and downlink components are used.
  • High power amplifiers, upconverters, downconverters, routers, switches, video encoders, servers.
  • Fixed and motorised antennas.
  • Skills to work with Various test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, radiation meters, power meters, digital voltmeters, frequency counters.
  • Hand tools are also used such as Drills & Skill saw
Decision Making and Supervision:
  • The Eastern Teleports & Remote Technologist is expected to make decisions as to the correct course of action to take when an alarm is received or when a problem is reported or discovered on a teleport service or system. The technologist is expected to perform planning in executing on assigned maintenance tasks and duties.
  • Supervision of contractors or customers working at a Telesat or customer location is sometimes required. Senior technologist will be expected to provide supervision and guidance to junior technologists.
  • The Eastern Teleports & Remote Technologist is expected to take the lead role in troubleshooting network issues or in implementing changes to a network or hub system.
Working Conditions:

Shift work (weekday) as required and the ability to work in an unsupervised environment is a requirement of this position. On call support on a rotational basis is part of this role. Frequent Travel is a requirement of this position.

The M10r group will be tasked of the maintaining of the new Papineauville Leo Landing station. Travelling to this facility will be part of the new Technician responsibilities.

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain Government of Canada clearance
