Job summary

Public Knowledge Project (PKP) is seeking a mid-career or senior software developer to work on Open Journal Systems (OJS), Open Monograph Press (OMP), and Open Preprint Systems (OPS) using PHP and VueJS. The role involves contributing to a Free/Open Source software project with a distributed team, code reviews, and collaboration with users to refine requirements.

The 1-year independent contractor role expects a 36-hour week with mornings in the Pacific time zone, remote work, and opportunities

Qualifications

• Must have experience with PHP (minimum 4 years)
• Must have experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL (minimum 4 years)
• Experience with Symfony / Laravel and REST APIs is desirable
• Experience with *NIX-based system administration and deployment
• Experience with modern frontend development and distributed teams

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with colleagues and PKP community to establish development requirements
• Participate in code reviews and coordinate work with team according to release schedule
• Learn new tools and practices to improve PKP’s development processes
• Engage in PKP community events, conferences, sprints, and webinars
• Work independently within a distributed, remote team and communicate in professional English
