Job summary

Intact Financial Corporation is seeking a Fire Investigator in its Claims Department to support growth with in-house technical fire origin investigations. You will determine causes, recreate sequence of events, validate hypotheses, and prepare reports for varied losses. You may testify in court and collaborate with adjusters, appraisers, and policyholders.

The role emphasizes rigorous scientific analysis, documentation, and coordination across teams within a hybrid work environment in Canada.

Qualifications

• Thorough knowledge of buildings, construction methods, heat transfer and the laws governing fire propagation.
• Over 10 years of relevant experience investigating the origin and causes of fires.
• Technical college diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Complete assignments for internal and external adjusters and file handlers, and work with building appraisers.
• Meet with policyholders to understand the circumstances surrounding their claim and investigate loss sites.
• Document the scene and express your opinion on probable causes, including written reports.
• Contribute technical expertise to resolve disputes during claims.
• Record and manage storage of specimens related to files.
• Carry out related tasks as needed.
