Job summary

AstraZeneca in Hamilton, Ontario, is seeking a dedicated leader to manage multiple animal research and regulatory activities, oversee the quality of work, and ensure the team operates safely and effectively.

You will supervise animal technicians, coordinate husbandry projects, handle ACC tasks, and maintain documentation to meet CCAC and AAALACi standards, with on-site work five days a week.

Qualifications

  • University degree in a scientific field or significant relevant experience.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body.
  • Comprehensive understanding of principles and concepts within the subject or specialist area, including an appreciation of relevant science and literature, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Proven ability to independently perform laboratory experiments to the required standard on a consistent basis.
  • Demonstrated capability to plan and organize team workloads effectively; Ability to coordinate ACC.

  • Coordinate Animal Husbandry projects while demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of Animal Science concepts and processes.
  • Work independently on routine tasks including Animal Care Committee tasks and coordination of third-party assessments, seeking assistance only for complex or unusual challenges.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance for individual and team activities by maintaining accurate and appropriate documentation, including SOPs, policies, training, and animal use records.

Role Overview

Manage multiple animal research and regulatory activities, direct and oversee the quality of work, and ensure the effective operation of the technical team and associated resources. Serve as a recognized specialist in caring for and managing research animals. Have strong knowledge of the disease area strategy and related research. Advise on guidelines and developments. Direct and supervise technical support and regulatory coordination activities.

Note

This position is located in our Hamilton facility with the requirement of being on-site 5 days per week. This position also requires rotational weekend and holiday work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure regulatory compliance for individual and team activities by maintaining accurate and appropriate documentation, including SOPs, policies, training, and animal use records.
  • Stay updated on advancements in laboratory animal science and regulatory standards by participating in continuing professional development opportunities and monitoring CCAC and AAALACi communications.
  • Perform all tasks in adherence to local Safety, Health, and Environment requirements to maintain a safe working environment.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
  • University degree in a scientific field or significant relevant experience;
  • Membership in a relevant professional body;
  • Comprehensive understanding of principles and concepts within the subject or specialist area, including an appreciation of relevant science and literature, and applicable regulatory requirements;
  • Proven ability to independently perform laboratory experiments to the required standard on a consistent basis;

Desirable
  • Previous experience of people management;
  • Experience maintaining regulatory and compliance documentation and records.

Annual base salary for this position ranges from 103,404.80 to 135,718.80.

The range provided in this posting represents an offer pay range used in a majority of situations. In some cases, offers outside the range may also be considered to address unique circumstances.
