Job summary

Douglas College invites applications for a regular probationary faculty instructor in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The primary work location is Coquitlam Campus with clinical sites. For 2026-2027, 8 sections of work are available, representing a full-time position.

You will teach clinical practice courses in mental health settings, as well as theory, communication, and psychomotor skills labs. Instructors plan, organize, and assess student learning, providing guidance to help learners succeed.

Qualifications

  • Current RPN/RN registration with BCCNM.
  • Master’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing or related field.
  • Teaching experience in nursing practice, classroom, and/or laboratory settings.
  • Recent clinical and/or teaching experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing.
  • Strong interpersonal and therapeutic communication skills.
  • Demonstrates cultural safety and humility in education and psychiatric nursing.
  • Ability to self-direct and work well in teams.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct students and facilitate learning in clinical practice and theory.
  • Plan, organise and manage learning activities and resources.

Salary Range

$71,846 to $115,129 annually. Salary scale and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

What It Takes

The Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Psychiatric Nursing invites applications for regular probationary faculty to teach clinical practice courses (mental health settings) as well as theory, communication and psychomotor skills laboratory courses in classroom settings for all levels of the Bachelor Science in Psychiatric Nursing Program. You will instruct students, facilitate learning, and evaluate student progress in College courses. You will plan, organise and manage learning activities and resources, provide academic advice to learners and maintain quality learner‑centred instruction. You will participate in team collaboration.

Qualifications
  • Current RPN / RN registration with BCCNM
  • A Master’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing, Nursing, Education or related field for regular positions or enrolment in a Master’s program (PhD preferred).
  • Teaching experience in nursing practice (clinical), classroom/seminar, and/or laboratory settings in a nursing program or equivalent (preferred).
  • Recent clinical and/or teaching experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing.
  • Experience in curriculum development and evaluation (an asset).
  • Effective interpersonal skills with a strong understanding of therapeutic communication.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of cultural safety and humility in the context of education and psychiatric nursing practice.
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to self‑direct in order to accomplish goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others and contribute to team activities.
  • Evidence of scholarship (e.g. research, publishing, conference presentations, professional committee involvement, community service).
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development (e.g. attendance at conferences, course work, in‑services).
  • Demonstrated initiative and creativity in practice.
