Job summary

Homewood Health Inc. in Guelph, Ontario, is hiring full-time and part-time Registered Practical Nurses for inpatient programs and acute care.

You will provide nursing care to patients with addictions and mental health diagnoses, and work with an interdisciplinary team to follow care plans and ensure quality outcomes. The starting rate of pay is $36.62 hourly under the UFCW collective agreement, with progression through wage steps per the agreement.

Qualifications

• Licensed as a Registered Practical Nurse with the CNO, in good standing.
• Experience with patients who have addiction and psychiatric diagnoses is preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with patients and families.
• Ability to work independently and in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Knowledge of Mental Health Act and community resources.
• BCLS Level C for healthcare providers or equivalent.
• Sound clinical judgment and patient-centered care.
• Familiarity with CBT/DBT and group facilitation is an asset.
• Experience with eMR is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients with addictions and/or mental health diagnoses.
• Contribute to fluctuating patient care needs per standards and guidelines.
• Receive assignments and follow care plans accordingly.
• Administer psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments.
• Initiate necessary clinical assessments on admission and as needed.
• Work collaboratively with other interdisciplinary team members.
• Act as a preceptor, mentor, or resource nurse as appropriate.
• Participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and family conferences.

We are currently hiring full-time and part -time Registered Practical Nurses for a variety of inpatient programs (addiction, trauma, mood & anxiety disorders, eating disorders, etc.) and/or in acute care. These positions fall under our collective agreement of UFCW (RPNs). What you'll be doing:

• Provide nursing care to patients with addictions and/or a variety of mental health diagnoses
• Contribute to fluctuating patient care needs according to CNO standards, RNAO Best Practice Guidelines, specific program philosophy and diversified patient populations
• Receive patient assignments and follow care plans accordingly
• Administer psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments
• Ensure necessary clinical assessments are initiated following admission and as needed
• Work collaboratively other interdisciplinary team members
• Act as a preceptor, mentor, coach, or resource nurse as appropriate
• Participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient/family conferences

What we’re looking for:

• Licensed as a Registered Practical Nurse with the CNO, in good standing
• Experience working with patients who have a broad range of addiction and psychiatric diagnoses preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills and caring, respectful communication style with patients, families and staff
• Ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team
• Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, documentation standards, and community mental health resources
• BCLS Level C for Healthcare Providers or equivalent
• Sound clinical judgment based on current best practices and patient centered care
• Applied understanding of the Stages of Change Model, Mental Status Exam, and Crisis management
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Computer proficiency with Word, Outlook
• Flexibility with respect to work schedule
• Knowledge of CBT/DBT and experience with group facilitation would be an asset
• Previous training in mental health nursing, boundaries and suicide awareness and medication administration are all assets
• Experience with any eMR

The starting rate of pay (Step 1) for the RPN position is $36.62 hourly , in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. Progression through the wage steps is governed by the terms of the collective agreement.
