Job summary

Extendicare is seeking a Part-time Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in Canada to enhance nursing practice daily in alignment with governing bodies and internal standards. You will ensure care adheres to established standards, physicians' orders, and policies, while observing and recording vital signs and patient conditions.

The role emphasizes assessment, care planning, and implementing physician orders, with a focus on seniors and long-term care.

Qualifications

• Current certificate of competence from the Approved Institutions in the province
• Registration or eligibility for registration with the Approved Institutions in the province
• Supervisory experience in long-term care (preferred)
• Experience with cognitively impaired residents
• Knowledge of nursing and health care practices, infection control knowledge
• Commitment to working with seniors
• Strong verbal and written communication; friendly demeanor
• Ability to synthesize information from multiple sources to solve problems

General Responsibilities

• 1) Ensure care is provided with established nursing standards and principles, physicians' orders and administrative policies, as well as observe, report and record vital signs, symptoms and conditions of residents / patients. Assure observance of required techniques in nursing care
• 2) Assist in assessing patients/residents and develop, implement, review and evaluate care plans. Monitor health, notes changes in condition and assess need for referral to doctors; processes and implement physicians' orders

Qualifications

• 1) Appropriate current certificate of competence from the Approved Institutions for the province
• 2) Registration or eligible for registration with the Approved Institutions for the province
• 3) Previous supervisory experience in long-term care preferred
• 4) Experience dealing with the cognitively impaired
• 5) Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, as well as Knowledge in Infection Control Practices
• 6) Demonstrated commitment to working with seniors
• 7) Ability to present information clearly and effectively both verbally whether in person or over the phone, and in writing; an active listener who projects a friendly demeanour
• 8) Ability to collect and use information to thoroughly think through problems and situations; puts information from various sources together to see the 'big picture' and generate creative solutions
• 9) Organizational, planning, time management and multi-tasking skills
