Located in the heart of the Niagara region, West Lincoln Memorial Hospital (WLMH), is a community hospital, providing both inpatient and outpatient services including emergency, complex, palliative care, surgery and a maternal and newborn program. As a site of Hamilton Health Sciences, WLMH also serves as a point of access to one of the largest health systems in Canada for patients requiring more specialized care.

Position Summary

The Medical/Surgical unit at WLMH is an acute adult community medical and surgical unit that provides care for medical, surgical, and telemetry patients. The unit is supported by a team of allied health staff, Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, clinical education and development, and support staff. A primary care physician model working together with the interdisciplinary team providing care to acutely ill patients, primarily geriatric population, including patients with multi system chronic illnesses. As an important member of the health care team, the Registered Practical Nurse provides nursing care within the Registered Practical Nurse’s scope of practice to our medical/surgical patients.

Schedule Work Hours

Rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications
  • Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses as a Registered Practical Nurse
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Recent experience in a medical/surgical unit within the last two years
  • RPN Added Nursing Skills course
  • Medication Administration course and Advance Wound Care
  • Asepsis course
  • Blood Glucose Testing by Finger Prick
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with patients, families and co-workers in an effective, professional, positive caring manner
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, interpersonal skills and problem solving
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
