Job Summary

The Registered Practical Nurse, Float Team provides care and resources to the nursing units within Stevenson Memorial Hospital. This position works in consultation with the RNs and other staff within the interdisciplinary team. This position will work on a variety of units, including but not limited to: Emergency, Medicine, and Obstetrics within the hospital. This position will provide excellent patient care to diverse acute medical patients through practicing in accordance within relevant legislation/standards, and meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses (CNO) as a Registered Practical Nurse.
  • Current BCLS required.
  • Current ACLS or completion within three (3) months of hire (completion preferred).
  • Two (2) years hospital nursing experience within the past three (3) years.
  • One (1) year experience in acute care.
  • Recent experience in Rehabilitation or Medicine would be an asset.
  • Recognized gerontology courses or advanced education would be an asset.
  • NRP preferred.
  • ENPC preferred.
  • Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) or equivalent preferred.
  • Certificate in Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) preferred.
  • Recent Medical/Surgical and Paediatric experience preferred.
  • Recent Palliative Care and Rehabilitation Experience preferred.
  • LEAP training preferred.
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) Gerontology certification preferred.
  • Completion of Coronary Care I preferred.
  • Competence in starting and maintaining IV’s (IV Certified).
  • Required to work in multiple departments and be assigned patient assignment or transfers as needed.

Hours of Work

In order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7. There is the expectation that you are available to work weekdays, weekends and all shifts (days, nights, 12 hour shifts).
