Job summary

A regional health facility in Nipissing District is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to provide care in the Ambulatory Care Unit. Responsibilities include handling minor surgical procedures and providing pre and post-operative care. Ideal candidates will possess the required certifications and have 1-2 years experience in an acute care setting. Applicants should demonstrate assessment skills, the ability to work in a team, and a commitment to safety. Bilingualism is an asset.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years experience in surgical nursing acute care setting and ambulatory clinics required.
  • Must be willing to function within the RPN full scope of practice.
  • Ability to participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Provide pre and post-operative care in the Ambulatory Care Unit.
  • Handle minor surgical procedures and consultations.

Ability to identify and address health teaching needs
Strong demonstrated assessment skills/history taking

Basic computer knowledge

Capillary Blood Glucose testing certification

Job description

Position: Registered Practical Nurse

Department: Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU)

The Surgical Clinic operates several days a week in the Ambulatory Care Unit, handling minor surgical procedures, follow-up post-operative appointments and consultations. Day surgery patients (adults and children) receive pre and post-operative care in the day surgery department. A variety of services can have outpatient day surgery procedures: General surgery, Dental surgery, Ear, nose and throat, Orthopedics, Urology, Gynecology

Qualifications

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Current Certificate of Registration ~ College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required (recent within past twelve months)
  • Certification in IV therapy required
  • Therapeutic Phlebotomy certification required
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention required (training delivered by Health Centre upon hire)
  • Capillary Blood Glucose testing certification required
  • Wound debridement certification required
  • Wound Management including vac dressings an asset
  • (1-2 years) experience in surgical nursing acute care setting and ambulatory clinics required
Skills/Abilities
  • Must be willing to function within the RPN full scope of practice
