Job summary

The Royal is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse (Casual 0.0 FTE) to support the Nursing Resource Team at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. You will float to various units and perform essential nursing tasks to ensure continuous patient care across shifts.

We require RN registration with CNO, current CPR/AED certification, and experience with mental health assessment and interventions. English proficiency is mandatory; bilingualism is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
  • Understanding of Mental Health Act and relevant legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Float to all hospital units as required as a Resource Team RPN.
  • Provide direct patient care including assessment, medication administration and basic nursing procedures.

Nursing Resource Team

As a Resource Team RPN, you will be available to float to all units of the hospital as required.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing;
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
  • Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
  • CPR/AED Certification within the last 2 years.
  • Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (C.P.I.) required.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Technical skills such as glucometer reading, vital signs, injection skills, physical assessment/mental health assessment, catheterization, medication administration, O2 administration, basic wound care, suctioning, safe patient handling, bladder scanning, ECT recovery, skin care and feeding
  • Ability to develop therapeutic relations with patients
  • Ability to function as a member of the inter-disciplinary team
  • Basic computer skills required
Preferred
  • Two years recent experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing
  • Knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positioning techniques

English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset

Salary Range: 37.24 to 39.02 per hour
