Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, a 321-bed academic hospital, is seeking a full-time Registered Practical Nurse for Beckwith B program. The role provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care with inter-professional collaboration in a high-demand setting.

Responsibilities include mental health nursing care, physical assessments, and discharge planning, following Ontario Nursing standards and facility policies.

Qualifications

• Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) with Oxygen Therapy (OT) and Airway Management (AM).
• Preference for experience in transitional, discharge or high-acuity services.
• Experience with medical and mental health nursing theory and practice.
• Knowledge of mental health medications is an asset.

• Coordinate services and resources for patients from admission to discharge.
• Observe, assess, and report patient condition; modify plans as needed; assess risk to self or others.

Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 321-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.

The Clinical Manager of the Beckwith B program is currently seeking a full-time Registered Practical Nurse. The Registered Practical Nurse willprovide mental health nursing care, physical assessment and related care required to patients within a specialized inter-professional clinical program.

• Assess patient condition and needs; develop and implement therapeutic patient treatment/care/discharge plans
• Actively participate in the identification and coordination of provision of services and resources for patients from admission to discharge WC
• Observe, assess, record, and report patient condition; evaluating progress and modify plans as appropriate; assess patient risk to self and/or others
• Contribute to a safe, therapeutic environment through awareness of the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards, program/facility wide policies and procedures, and mandatory training

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current registration in good standing as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) with Oxygen Therapy (OT) and Airway Management (AM).
• Preference will be given to those with experience in transitional, discharge or high-acuity services.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with medical and mental health nursing theory and practice
• Demonstrated knowledge of and/or experience with medication practices, side effects, and current treatment modalities, knowledge of mental health medications an asset
• Preference for recent and related experience working with high-risk patients who are demonstrating treatment-resistant symptoms
• Preference for forensic mental health experience in a mental health facility or service
• Experience with physical assessment and care requirements and psychiatric nursing theory, nursing practice and forensic mental health
• Experience with patient safety including emergency patient care procedures
• Demonstrated reasoning and analytical skills
• Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely results
• Demonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal, teamwork and organizational skills
• Proven ability to adapt readily to change and experience working in a fast-paced work environment
• Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude
• Preference for proficiency in French/English
