Job summary

AgeCare Ltd. in Ontario is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to provide professional nursing care to residents in accordance with required medical and nursing practice.

You will also direct Personal Support Workers and collaborate with the health care team. In collaboration with the Registered Nurse, you will implement AgeCare policies on the unit, liaise with physicians, and ensure residents’ care needs are met.

Qualifications

  • Currently licensed as Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario
  • Knowledge of geriatric, rehabilitation, or long-term care nursing
  • Experience supervising Personal Support Workers and collaborating with health care teams

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to implement AgeCare policies on the unit
  • Provide input into procedure revisions within the residence and unit
  • Liaise with physicians and other health care team members
  • Notify physician of significant changes in resident status in the absence of the RN
  • Work with the health care team to meet residents' care needs
  • Direct Personal Support Workers on the care team
  • Participate in shift handover to inform team of changes in resident status

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) provides professional nursing care to residents in accordance with required medical care and professional nursing practice. The Registered Practical Nurse provides direction to the Personal Support Workers as defined by the College of Nurses Standard of Practice Working with Unregulated Health Care Workers.

What You Will Do
  • In collaboration with the Registered Nurse, implements AgeCare policies and procedures on the unit.
  • Provides input into the revision of procedures within the residence and the unit.
  • Liaises with physicians and other members of the health care team including external health care partners.
  • In the absence of the Registered Nurse, immediately notifies the physician of any significant changes in resident status.
  • Works with other members of the health care team to ensure residents’ care needs are met.
  • Provides direction to Personal Support Workers on the care team.
  • Participates in shift report with members of the health care team, ensuring that all team members are informed of changes in resident status.
What You Bring

A sound knowledge and background in geriatric, rehabilitation or long-term care nursing including activation, nursing, and personnel administration.

Knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act and Regulations, the appropriate sections of the Health Disciplines Act, Occupation Health and Safety Act, Pharmacy Act, Food and Drugs Act (Canada), Controlled Substances Act (Canada) Health Promotion and Protection Act. Personal Health Protection Act, Coroners Act, College of Nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice and other pertinent Federal, Provincial and Municipal Statues which influence the operation of the Nursing Home and more specifically the nursing department.

A current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario and a member in good standing.
