Job summary

Halton Healthcare in Oakville, Ontario is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse with strong surgical experience for the Surgical Day Care unit. The role supports patient-centered, outpatient care within a multidisciplinary team in a dynamic setting.

The position is 0.50 FTE (permanent part-time) with day/evening shifts and 7.5 hour days. Ontario registration and BCLS are required; ophthalmology and orthopedic experience is preferred, with a strong emphasis on safety and collaboration.

Qualifications

• Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Current BCLS Certification at time of hire.
• Experience with ophthalmology pre and post op preferred.
• Experience with orthopedic patients, especially total joint replacements.
• Knowledge of pain management preferred.
• Experience with Acute Pain Service.
• Experience with regional anesthesia (peripheral nerve blocks and spinals).
• CVAD experience preferred.
• Recent surgical experience in a day surgery environment – pre and post-op care.
• Strong IV insertion skills.
• Aseptic technique, wound care, ostomy care, CBI care, foley catheter care and IV care, including blood product administration.
• Experience in medication administration.
• Organized and team-oriented; self-directed.
• Multicultural awareness in health care.
• Basic computer skills - Meditech Order Entry.
• Familiarity with Smarttrack (OR Manager).
• Must meet physical demands; satisfactory attendance.

Job Description

The Surgical Day Care team requires a Registered Practical Nurse with strong surgical experience to assist with the operational growth within the surgical program.

Functions as an active member of a multidisciplinary team in the provision of patient-focused care in the outpatient environment. The successful candidate will collaborate with other health care professionals in the planning and implementation of care for a wide variety of surgical cases.

Qualifications

• Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
• Current BCLS Certification required at time of hire
• Recent experience with ophthalmology pre and post op preferred
• Experience with orthopedic patients, especially total joint replacements, strongly recommended
• Knowledge of pain management preferred
