Job summary

Nova Scotia Health is hiring a Registered Orthotic Technician to support the Rehabilitation & Supportive Care Services at QEII. Under supervision of a certified clinician, you’ll evaluate, design, fabricate and maintain orthoses to improve patient mobility and function.

Requirements include registration in good standing with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada, a minimum of two years’ hospital experience, strong communication, and high manual dexterity. French is a plus.

Qualifications

• Registration in good standing with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (annual renewal).
• Minimum of two years’ experience.
• Experience in a hospital setting, preferred.
• Communicate well with patients, families and the health care team.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills to manage changing caseloads.
• High level of manual dexterity and problem-solving abilities.
• Understanding of privacy and confidentiality requirements and infection control procedures.
• French language skills are an asset.

Responsibilities

• Evaluation, treatment planning, and custom fabrication of orthoses to enhance mobility.
• Maintenance of orthotic devices and collaboration with an inter-professional health care team to meet patient goals.
• Provide supervision and evaluation of students or technical interns when applicable.

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Program Manager of Assistive Technology, and under the direction of an appropriate, certified Clinician, the Registered Orthotic Technician provides technical expertise towards evaluation, treatment planning, individualized design, custom fabrication, and maintenance of assistive devices, primarily orthoses,to enhance patient mobility and/or physical function. The Registered Technician works collaboratively with the inter-professional health care team to provide optimal care and to assist the patient in achieving their orthotic goals.

The Registered Technician works with patients directly and indirectly by contributing to the orthotic ongoing care. The Registered Technician works closely with the certified clinician to ensure the quality and integrity of orthoses provided to patients meet the physical and functional needs of the patients and their goals by ensuring the materials and components used are best evidence informed practice. Registered Technicians incorporate critical thinking, problem solving, and effective communication to deliver high quality care to patients.

TheRegistered Technicianmay provide supervision and evaluation of students and/or technical interns.

About You

• Registration in good standing with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (annual renewal)

• Possess excellent interpersonal skills and have organizational skills to complete assigned work and manage changing caseloads

• Understanding of privacy and confidentiality requirements and understanding of infection control procedures
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

• Permanent full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly

Compensation and Benefits

$32.59 - $41.98 Hourly
