DEPARTMENT: SURGERY POSITION LOCATION: OWEN SOUND UNION AFFILIATION: ONA STATUS: FULL-TIME, TEMPORARY (APPROX. END DATE JANUARY 2027) WAGE RATE: $40.24 - $57.68

Reporting to the Manager of Surgical Services, the responsibility of the Registered Nurse is the promotion of health and the assessment of, the provision of care of, and the treatment of health conditions by supportive, preventative, therapeutic, palliative and rehabilitative means to surgical patients in order to attain or maintain optimal function.

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications
  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario registration or eligibility
  • Physical Assessment course
  • Current surgical experience with a minimum of two years within the last five years
  • Venipunctures to establish an IV required
  • IV medications below the drip chamber
  • Central line care - including tubing, dressing change ,line removal and blood sampling
  • Management and care of patients will epidural analgesia
  • Management and care of P.C.A. pumps
  • Maintenance of TPN
  • Management of Negative Pressure Therapy
  • Self directed and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing population and patient needs
  • Willingness to escort patients via ambulance services when required
  • Demonstrated leadership problem solving, decision making, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Interviewing and patient assessment skills
  • Interest and experience in patient education and health promotion
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education
  • Current BCLS
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records

Preferred
  • Baccalaureate Degree in nursing
  • Post-Anesthetic Course
  • Additional Education pertaining to surgery/medicine
  • Broad surgical experience preferred with experience in all sub-specialties
