This temporary full-time role provides acute care coverage for patients awaiting placement in Long Term Care. The position requires current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, CPR certification, OHSA safety knowledge, and strong teamwork, communication, and physical stamina to meet unit demands.

Qualifications

• Must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
• CPR certification is required.
• Knowledge of safety culture per OHSA guidelines.
• Ability to supervise under OHSA directives.
• Experience in gerontological nursing and dementia care.
• Experience with medical/surgical patients.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and nursing process documentation.
• Able to work independently and lead others when needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care on Surge Unit 5BS at Parkwood Institute.
• Support acute care capacity for patients awaiting LTC placement.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and document nursing processes.

• Maintain safety practices and physical requirements of the unit.

Surge Unit - 5BS

Parkwood Institute Main - London, ON

Temporary Full Time

Salary Range: $41.15 - $58.98 /hour

Temporary position anticipated to extend until July 31, 2027, and is subject to the availability of work

This position will primarily be assigned to support the Surge Unit - 5BS at Parkwood Institute. The Surge Unit - 5BS is a 22-bed unit in place to help build acute care capacity across the London hospitals. Most patients on this unit are awaiting placement in Long Term Care.

Essential Qualifications

• Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Valid CPR certificate
• Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
• Ability and commitment to act as a supervisor under OHSA
• Experience and knowledge in gerontological nursing and in providing care to patients with chronic mental illness, cognitive impairments or a progressive dementia
• Previous experience in the care of patients with medical/surgical conditions
• Ability to establish positive relationships with customers and to work as an effective team member
• Demonstrated ability to apply and document the nursing process
• Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and direct others
• Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving skills
• Superior communication skills both written and verbal
• Ability to apply effective body mechanics and meet the physical demands of the position

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in French would be an asset
• Certification in Gerontology
• Minimum one-year experience working with people with progressive dementia
