Job description
Required
  • Current Certificate of Registration in good standing, or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current certification in BCLS or CPR, or proof of enrolment in a recertification course. You will be asked to provide a copy of your valid certificate at the time of hire/transfer.
  • Completion of Coronary Care 1 or equivalent (e.g., previous Cardio Concepts QH) or willingness to register for an eligible course within 60 days and complete it within 6 months of starting the position (or mutually agreed dates).
  • Capable of handling a physically demanding workload. (Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) available for review).
Duties
  • Administers total patient care for a group of patients, evaluating patient outcomes in accordance with independent nursing functions.
  • Collaborates and implements care plans with interdisciplinary team members, including assessment, treatment, coaching, and education.
  • Performs acts requiring specialized knowledge, skills, and judgment in assessing health needs and in planning, administering, and evaluating patient care safely.
  • Adheres to QH values while promoting an enhanced patient experience.
  • Maintains nursing records in accordance with College of Nurses Standards.
  • Practices in compliance with provincial legislation, hospital policies, professional standards, and best practices.
  • Maintains professional competence through annual education and seeking additional learning opportunities.
  • Reports relevant information to other healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrates leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills to assume the role of an “in charge” nurse.
  • Practices within the scope of professional, legal, and ethical standards.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives at the unit, department, and hospital levels.
  • Follows safety policies to ensure a safe workplace, including attending educational programs and adhering to health and safety policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands Analysis

Strength: Occasionally lifting 20 pounds, max 50; pushing/pulling 10-15 pounds, max 30; assisting patients approx. 100 pounds.

Mobility: Constant standing; frequent walking, bending/stooping; occasional sitting, twisting, crouching, kneeling; rare balancing and climbing.

Dexterity: Frequent gripping, pinching, shoulder, neck, back movements; occasional fine finger movements; rare foot actions.
