Job summary

A regional healthcare provider in Ontario seeks a qualified nurse for surgical services with at least two years of recent inpatient experience. Key responsibilities include patient assessments, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and maintaining high standards in patient care. Ideal candidates will have current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and certifications in CPR/BCLS.

Qualifications

  • Current registration or eligibility with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Completion of Coronary Care 1 or equivalent within 6 months.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in inpatient surgery within the past 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for assigned patients.
  • Coordinating and delivering care in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrating excellence in communication and patient-centered care.

Skills

Current Certificate of Registration in good standing or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
Completion of Coronary Care 1 or equivalent
Current certification in BCLS or CPR
A minimum of two years of recent experience in inpatient surgery
Sound understanding of surgical and anesthesia risk factors
Proficient in modalities and principles of adult and pediatric education
Ability to cope with physically demanding workload
Job description
Required
  • Current Certificate of Registration in good standing or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Completion of Coronary Care 1 or equivalent (ex. QHC Cardio Concepts) or able obtain within 6 months.
  • Current certification in BCLS or CPR or proof of enrolment in a recertification course. You will be asked to provide a copy of your valid certificate at the time of hire / transfer.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of recent experience in inpatient surgery or perioperative surgical services within the past three (3) years.
  • Sound understanding of surgical and anesthesia risk factors and associated management.
  • Proficient in modalities and principles of adult and paediatric education.
  • Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload. (Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) available to review).
Duties
  • Utilizes the nursing process in assessing planning implementing and evaluating care to assigned patients utilizing specialized knowledge skills and judgment.
  • Responsible and accountable for the coordination and delivery of care within the framework of collaborative practice consulting and collaborating with interdisciplinary team members as required.
  • Demonstrates excellence in communication patient and family‑centred care and teamwork / collaboration.
  • Demonstrates proficiency and advanced knowledge and skillset in pre‑ and post‑surgical patient education and assessment.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives to ensure a high level of patient care.
  • Phlebotomy IV initiation and ECG.
  • Documents proficiently according to standards and hospital policies.
  • Participates in quality assurance and continuing education programs to maintain practices aligned with best evidence standards and recommended practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.
