Position Summary

Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at Northern Health.

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values and strategic priorities of Northern Health, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with the standards of professional practice and code of ethics as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a patient and family‑centred care model.

The RN/RPN provides ongoing intensive outreach nursing care, case management and mental health and substance use support services for assigned clients, whether they are in hospital, residential or other community settings. Designs, implements and monitors individual treatment plans to maximise community functioning and reduce read‑hospitalisation. Works in close association with inter‑professional community mental health and substance use staff, emergency services, Indigenous partners, and community service providers.

Qualifications
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practising RN registrant or RPN registrant.
  • Minimum two years nursing experience in mental health and substance use programming or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current valid BC driver’s licence.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate, prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety‑type interventions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, the public, medical staff, and members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written and computer means.
  • Ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem‑solve effectively.
  • Ability to promote client‑focused care that demonstrates care for and with clients and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, client advocacy and social justice concerns.
  • Ability to create culturally safe, trauma‑informed health care settings through individualised care planning and collaborative approaches to service provision, including Indigenous health services if possible.
  • Ability to transmit information intended to instruct clients and others about topics essential to health care and well‑being.
  • Manages time and resources, implementing activities to promote cooperation among relevant others, collaboration across disciplines and related activities.
  • Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness and risk‑taking, creative planning for change and innovation, implementation of NH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self.
  • Using factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support decisions and actions with relevant research‑based evidence. Integrates best practice from nursing and health‑related disciplines and the humanities, arts, and sciences into professional practice.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
