Job summary

Northern Health is seeking a motivated Registered Nurse to join Ksyen Regional Hospital in a maternity-focused role. The RN will provide antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, neonatal, medical-surgical, and pediatric nursing care guided by BCCNM standards and Perinatal Services BC guidelines.

Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, collaborating with the Unit Manager and interdisciplinary team, and promoting human-centered care.

Qualifications

  • Current practicing registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Post-graduate Obstetrical course or equivalent education/experience.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Current Fetal Health Surveillance (FHS) or willingness to take.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR.
  • Ability to perform initial and ongoing patient assessments with clinical reasoning.
  • Effective communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team.
  • Ability to promote patient-focused, culturally sensitive care.
  • Ability to transmit health information and educate patients.
  • Time/resource management and leadership to support NH policies.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at Ksyen Regional Hospital.

Reporting to Unit Manager, this Maternity focused position identifies, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care required to assist patients in meeting their physical, social, and psychological needs. Patient care assignments may include antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care; neonatal care (Nursery); and Medical Surgical and/or Pediatric patients. Care of assigned patients is guided by current BCCNM standards of Nursing Practice and Perinatal Services BC Guidelines and Standards.

A first in Canada: minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR) are starting in B.C.! Northern Health, along side other health authorities, is implementing mNPR as a transformative staffing solution that aims to improve the working environment of nurses in order to provide better quality care to our patients.

Qualfications
  • Current practicing registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Successful completion of post-graduate Obstetrical course or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
  • Current Fetal Health Surveillance (FHS) or willingness to take.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or equivalent CPR.
  • Assessment and Intervention – Demonstrated ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate/ prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
  • Communication – Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, families, the public, medical staff and members of the interdisciplinary team using verbal, written and computer communication means.
  • Critical Thinking – Demonstrated ability to integrate and evaluate pertinent data (from multiple sources) to problem-solve effectively.
  • Human Caring and Relationship Centered Practice – Ability to promote patient-focused care that demonstrates care for and with patients and significant others, sensitive to diverse cultures and preferences, patient advocacy and social justice concerns.
  • Teaching – Ability to transmit information intended to instruct patients and others about topics essential to health care and well-being.
  • Management – Manages time and resources, implementing activities to promote cooperation among relevant others, collaboration across disciplines and related activities.
  • Leadership – Promotes staff morale, cooperation, assertiveness, creative planning for change and innovations, implementation of NH policies or other protocols, and ongoing professional development of self.
  • Knowledge Integration – Using factual information, prior learning and basic principles and procedures to support decisions and actions with relevant research-based evidence. Integrates best practice from nursing and health-related disciplines and the humanities, arts and sciences disciplines into professional practice.
  • Quality Care – Provide direct patient care as needed to meet the needs of the patients.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
  • Physical, psychological and emotional ability to perform the duties of the position.
