Job summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Cardiac Care Unit at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC. The role provides specialized nursing care to high-risk, critically ill clients requiring life-support and post-anesthetic recovery, working both independently and within an interdisciplinary team.

Under BC College of Nurses and Midwives standards, you will maintain clinical competence, engage in ongoing education, and participate in committees or approved research

Qualifications

• Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with BCCNM.
• Completion of a recognized critical care nursing program or two years' recent critical care experience.

Come work as a Registered Nurse with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) at the Cardiac Care Unit at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC!

Within the context of a client and family centered care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for registered nurses, Code of Ethics and the established mission, vision, values, objectives and policies of Vancouver Coastal Health, provides nursing care to high risk critically ill clients with unpredictable outcomes attached to life-support equipment, and/or clients in post-anaesthetic recovery, both by working independently and as a member of a interdisciplinary team. Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the client/family. Consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care givers. Demonstrates expertise and leadership in nursing practice. Maintains and advances clinical competence. Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.

As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. For all new hires and appointments to Vancouver Coastal Health, you will be asked to provide this information as part of the onboarding process.

Education & Experience

• Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).

• Thorough knowledge of nursing problems commonly encountered in a critical care environment.
• Thorough knowledge of the physiological and behavioural aspects of complex critical illnesses.
• Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.
• Demonstrated ability in nursing practice to assess and manage critical and life-threatening situations.
• Demonstrated ability to respond immediately and appropriately to sudden emergencies.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
