About the Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) reports to the Director of Care and/or designate and is a role model and team leader who coordinates and supervises the activities and duties of those delivering direct resident care. The RN performs duties and monitors departmental activities in accordance with standards, regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure holistic quality care while respecting resident dignity.

Responsibilities

  • Assess residents’ needs; implement and evaluate individualized, resident-centered care plans.
  • Support LPNs in reviewing and updating care plans, provide clinical decision-making support including assessments to assist the care team.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to standards, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage community wound care, assist LPNs with assessments, treatments, documentation, and referrals to specialists as needed. Submit weekly wound reports to the Director of Care.
  • Provide direct resident care as necessary and coordinate with other disciplines to ensure quality care.
  • Liaise with physicians, community agencies, families, visitors, and volunteers.
  • Support the move-in process, collaborate with team members, and follow community policies.
  • Attend Care Conferences in the absence of the DOC or designate.
  • Ensure residents’ rights are observed and promote a holistic wellness philosophy.
  • Act as First Aid attendant when on duty and ensure proper documentation of injuries.
  • Maintain a safe environment through accident prevention, emergency procedures, equipment safety, and infection control.
  • Coordinate and supervise care staff, assign duties, and ensure resident-focused care and rights are upheld.
  • Provide clinical guidance to staff in the absence of the DOC or designate.
  • Fulfills clinical on-call duties as required.
  • Conduct community audits and report findings to the DOC or designate.
  • Participate in new employee orientation and training, provide educational guidance, and demonstrate procedures.
  • Support staff evaluations and coaching, especially for HCAs.
  • Participate in community programs, meetings, committees, and educational sessions.
  • Maintain confidentiality and proper documentation in both paper and electronic formats.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Graduate of an approved nursing program and current license with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as an RN.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is an asset.
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 and CPR certifications.
  • Successful completion of annual Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) competency testing.
  • Experience in a long-term care facility is an asset.
  • Must pass a vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check per provincial guidelines.
  • Proficient in English reading, writing, speaking, and understanding verbal and written instructions.
  • Computer literacy, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must be in good health, physically capable of performing repetitive tasks, lifting, bending, standing, and walking as required.
