A leading healthcare provider in Edmonton seeks a Registered Nurse to work in the Recovery Room at the Orthopedic Surgery Centre. You will be responsible for providing perioperative care and collaborating with the surgical team. The ideal candidate has a strong nursing background, BCLS certification, and experience in critical care. This role offers variable shifts, competitive pay, and a casual employment opportunity.
Registered Nurse in the Recovery Room (PACU), Orthopedic Surgery Centre (OSC) at the Royal Alexandra Hospital is responsible for providing perioperative patient care for arthroplasty, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, bariatric surgery, and urologic surgery patients. Using the nursing process, in accordance with CRNA and Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC), the nurse will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective, and efficient care in Post Anesthesia Care Unit as an integral part of their surgical team. The incumbent performs a variety of nursing duties by administering safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. The incumbent must demonstrate a professional, positive attitude. Excellent communication, teaching, organizational, problem solving, and interpersonal skills are required. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the incumbent must have the ability to recognize and assist with management of post anesthesia/surgical problems.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well‑being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family‑centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. Please note: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58‑$54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS‑HCP) certification. Graduate from an approved School of Nursing required. Current CRNA membership required, expected to be maintained throughout employment. Current BCLS‑HCP certification required, expected to be maintained throughout employment. Minimum 2‑3 years of recent experience in a high acuity PACU required. Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized and rapidly moving environment. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of an integrated team. Demonstrates advanced problem‑solving skills integrating critical thinking and good judgment. Demonstrates communication skills promoting respect and team spirit. Connect Care required. Experience in acute care Surgical Suite with Arthroplasty Hip, Knee and Shoulder Surgery is preferred. Experience in an acute care Surgical Suite with Urologic Surgery, General Surgery and/or Bariatric Surgery is preferred. Current ACLS certification preferred. Adult ICU or Critical Care experience within the past 5 years preferred.
