Job summary

Providence Health Care is offering a fully funded Critical Care education program in partnership with BCIT to train nurses for the PACU. After completing the program, you will begin working as a PACU Registered Nurse at Mount St. Joseph Hospital, with an 18-month full-time service commitment.

The program includes tuition coverage, paid wages during eligible components, and comprehensive benefits. As a Staff Nurse, you will work with an interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care,

Qualifications

• Must be a registered nurse in Canada in good standing and be eligible for registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Minimum of 1-2 year medical or surgical experience.

The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr. - CAD $55.91/Hr.

Providence Health Care, in partnership with BCIT, is offering fully funded critical care education for nurses interested in a career in the the Post-Anaestetic Recovery Unit (PACU). This includes:

• 100% coverage of tuition and textbooks
• Paid wages at 100% of the posted FTE for eligbile program components.

Upon completing the program, you'll receive a Critical Care Nursing Certificate and begin working as a PACU Registered Nurse at Mount St. Joseph Hospital. Please note: participants in the program must commit to 18 months of full-time sevice with PHC after completing the program.

BCIT Critical Care Program (Dates are approximate and are set by BCIT):

• Phase 1: Theory
  • Pre-requisite courses by distance (Unpaid). Completed online.
  • (April 6th to September 19th, 2027)
• PHC Orientation:
  • New Employee and General Nursing Orientation (Paid). Held onsite.

• Release Days
  • Pre-requisite release days (Paid). Held at BCIT.

• Phase 2: Compressed Time Frame (CTF)
  • Classroom/Clinical (Paid). Delivered at BCIT and Mount St. Joseph Hospital.

As a Staff Nurse, you'll be at the forefront of patient care, working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure patients/residents receive comprehensive support.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Assess patients' physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans
• Incorporate teaching into care plans to educate patients and families
• Make referrals to resources as needed
• Support fellow healthcare professionals
• Operate within the framework of Providence Health Care's mission, vision, and values

Minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR) set the minimum number of nurses required to safely care for patients on a given unit. Your Day to Day:

• Conduct thorough patient/resident assessments through chart reviews, observations, interviews, and collaboration with peers
• Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans based on evidence-based practices, prioritizing patient/resident needs
• Adhere to established policies, procedures, and PHC standards while providing high-quality nursing care
• Monitor patient/resident progress, evaluate outcomes, and adjust care plans as needed for optimal results
• Maintain accurate records of assessments, care plans, patient/resident status, and discharge plans using manual and computerized systems
• Identify and address patient/resident and family learning needs, providing education and referrals as necessary
• Provide direction to staff, promote teamwork, and share clinical knowledge to enhance patient care
• Support nursing research initiatives and contribute to the improvement of patient/resident care policies and procedures
• Advocate for patients/residents' rights and dignity, facilitate discharge plans, and collaborate with families and community resources
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the healthcare team
